She spent a morning shooting at our feeders. We have 4 hummers that show up on a regular basis. Two mature females, a immature male and mature male. We are trying to get the male with his throat patch shining in the light but it is proving to be a tough go.
The mature male keeps getting ran off by the females– in fact, hummers fight all the time to secure a constant food source.
The dogfights are something to see.
We only have Ruby Throated Hummingbirds here. Out on the West Coast where you live, there are many more species and for folks that really get into these little guys–
Central America is the place to be for the truly serious hummingbird photographer.
You can Google hummingbird photography and see everything from a natural light set up like ours to multiple flash setups. Some of the setups are really complex and the results are stunning.

Molly is a bird whisperer and I think before the summer is over she will have them feeding from her hand. They let her within arm’s length now and she gets closer every day.
